Aviation fuel is essential for every airstrike. While civilians are being killed by airstrikes, international aviation fuel supply networks continue to provide the fuel needed to keep the junta’s aircraft flying.
On 28 September 2026, the junta carried out an airstrike on Kissapanadi Market and Kissapanadi Bridge in Kyauktaw, killing at least 50 civilians. Among the victims was a nine-month-pregnant woman and her baby, who was still being delivered from her womb when both were burnt to death.
This has remained one of the most severe and brutal deaths caused by the crimes committed by the Myanmar military junta.
In this Advocacy Brief:
7,955+ airstrike incidents since the attempted coup in February 2021 (as of 30 September 2026)
4,909+ civilians killed by airstrikes
3.9 million+ gallons of aviation fuel used during the three-month research period
Nearly US$10 million spent on this aviation fuel
8,871+ hours of flight time
An average of 25 aircraft flying for around 4 hours a day
7 civilian airports used for military operations
And more.
Who is helping keep the junta’s aircraft flying?
Aviation fuel reaches Myanmar through international supply networks involving trading companies, shipping companies, insurers, and financial networks in Thailand, Singapore, Vietnam, China, India, Iran, the UK, and other countries.
Who is responsible for stopping the junta from accessing aviation fuel?
International governments must take action against companies supplying and transporting aviation fuel to the Myanmar military.
Insurers must stop providing insurance for the aviation fuel supply chain.
ASEAN countries must immediately stop the involvement of companies based in their countries in the aviation fuel supply chain.
